If your procurement strategy doesn’t integrate sustainability, you’re signing up for risk: continuity, compliance, and total cost. Here are 3 questions you can use to audit it in 5 minutes.
Sustainability is no longer a “nice to have.” It affects your license to operate, reputational exposure, and supply stability. The key is to translate it into decisions: RFx, evaluation, and contract terms, not a statement.Recommended reference framework: ISO 20400, 2017.
Here are five points to consider:
· Define ESG criteria (environmental, social, and governance) by category
· Request auditable evidence in RFx and standardized documentation
· Include compliance clauses and right-to-audit language in the contract
· Measure impact on risk, lead time, and total cost—not just “compliance”
· Review critical suppliers in SRM with corrective plans and due dates
If it’s not in RFx + scorecard + contract, it’s not strategy, it’s talk.
Comment: do you have a supplier sustainability checklist in place?
